West to East: Great biking across northern Vietnam - a trip like no others

Photo: On the road to Ha Giang

Our unique biking trip in northern Vietnam takes place against a backdrop of endless lush green paddy fields and irregular tree-covered limestone mountains. Providing a fleeting insight into the traditional lives, friendly tribes and exotic landscapes of north-west and north-east Vietnam, our trip also delivers surprisingly good riding across the mountainous area of northern Vietnam. There are technical sections, easy hills, huge flowing descents and some glorious singletracks.

Vietnam is rapidly becoming one of the most popular countries in the world for adventurous bike touring. It’s easy to see why. This long, slender land with such an unhappy history has an amazing array of landscapes, with thousands of km of roads linking mountains and beaches, jungle with intensive paddy field landscapes. Vietnam represents a viscerally intense cycling and cultural experience, love it or hate it, you will not forget your trip.

Vietnam City Guides

Bac Can province is home to Ba Be national park. The park takes its name from Ba Be (Three Bays) lake, Vietnam's largest.

Situated about 180 km (111 miles) northwest of Hanoi, the park is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Vietnam. It is home to the ethnic Tay, Dau, H’mong and Nung peoples who continue to maintain their traditional lifestyles and survive by fishing the lake as they have done for centuries.
